Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen claims WD title

(Beijing, October 14) The women's doubles final of the 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament concluded this evening at Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium, with top seeded Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen clinching a 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) victory over Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui to claim the women's doubles title.

Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui opened the match with 2-0 but Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen soon adjusted themselves and worked closely to tie the score. The match then turned into a seesaw battle until Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui broke the tie to lead 11-7. However, Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen fought back to tie the score again at 12-12. Then the match fell into a seesaw battle again until Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen scored 3 points in a raw to lead 18-15 and finally won the game 21-17.

The second game saw Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui leading 7-2 with forceful attacks. But Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen didn't show the white feather but tightened their defense to tie the score at 11-11 and went on to enlarged their lead 16-12. Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui then fought hard to reduce the gap to 2 points. However Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen managed to give a steady play to their skills and maintained their lead with the end of the game. The match ended with 2-0 in favor of Wei/Zhang.

After the women's doubles final an awarding ceremony was held. Liu Fengyan, Vice-President of the Chinese Badminton Association and Director of the Table Tennis and Badminton Administrative Center under the General Administration of Sport, and Fan Boyuan, President of both the Beijing University of Technology and the event organizing committee, presented medals to gold medalists Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen, silver medalists Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui and bronze medalists Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen.
