(Beijing, October 14) Second-seeded Zhang Yawen/Xie Zhongbo beat top-seed pair Gao Ling/Zheng Bo 2-0 to claim the mixed doubles title at the on-going 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament.

While world No. 1 Gao Ling/Zheng Bo did not seem in form and failed to bring out their best, it was only natural for Zhang Yawen/Xie Zhongbo, world No. 3 who played exceptionally well throughout the match, to win the gold medal.

In the opening game, both sides fought hard to tie the score time and again. After 13-11 Zhang/Xie extended their lead with 18-12 and then took the game 21-15.

With a flexible and varied play Zhang/Xie opened the second game with a 6-0 lead, while Gao/Zheng failed to make any progress in front of their opponents' tight defense. As a result, Gao/Zheng soon conceded the game with 21-9 and had to be content with a silver medal.
