Olympic dress rehearsal for world's top shuttlers

(Beijing, October 13) The fourth day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament saw semifinals contested in all the five events and a number of top Chinese players making their ways into the finals scheduled for tomorrow.

In the men's doubles, Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng beat Xu Chen/ Sun Junjie 2-0 to become the first to enter the finals. They will have a clash with Xie Zhongbo/Guo Zhendong who outplayed Zhang Lei/He Qi 2-0 this evening.

Zhu Lin, who won her semis without a match after the withdrawal of top seed Zhang Ning because of an injury, will challenge No. 2 seed Xie Xingfang in the women's singles final, after Xie beat sixth-seeded Zhu Jingjing with 21-9, 21-13.

In the women's doubles, Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen fought a grueling battle with Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen to advance to the final. Tomorrow they will meet Zhao Tingting/Huang Sui, who currently ranks sixth in the world.

After beating unseeded Hong Jingyu/Bao Zilong with an easy 2-0 win, Zhang Yawen/Xie Zhongbo is to take on top-seeded pair Gao Ling/Zheng Bo for the mixed doubles title.

The men's singles final will see China's superstar Lin Dan being pitted against teammate Bao Chunlai for the gold-medal. With his poweful smashes and unique skills the world-renowned "Super Dan" stopped the winning streak of Tien Minh Nguyen from Vietnam with 2-0 in today's semifinals and is ready for the challenge from world's No. 5 Bao, who vows to beat him for the gold medal in tomorrow's Olympic dress rehearsal.
