BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bao Chunlai and Xie Xingfang, seeded second in the men's and women's event respectively, cruised to the quarterfinals of Beijing International Badminton Tournament here on Thursday.

In the men's event, Bao thrashed his compatriot He Ji 21-5, 21-11 within 22 minutes. Bao opened the set with a 16-point lead and never looked back to snatch the final victory with powerful jump smashes and smart drops.

"I played every game as hard as if it were Olympics," said Bao, adding the service and facility of the gymnasium is first class.

"I feel very comfortable here," he said.

The tournament is being held at the southeast Beijing University of Technology (BUT) Gymnasium, the badminton venue for 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In her match against teammate Wang Dan, Xie Xingfang dominated with a variation of shots, winning 21-4, 21-9 in 18 minutes.

"Today's match is just a test for me to adapt to the new venue. I am now preparing for the Denmark Open," said Xie.

Bao and six other Chinese including top-seeded Lin Dan, together with Nguyen Tien Minh from Vietnam, have made it to the quarterfinals of the men's singles.

On the women's side, seven Chinese players will compete with their top-seeded teammate Zhang Ning for positions in semifinals.
