Int'l badminton tourney enters on second day

(Beijing, October 11) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament entered on its second day at Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium on October 11, with the mixed doubles round of 16 starting at 9.00 a.m. Today there will be competitions in the men's and women's singles round of 16, the men's and women's doubles round of 16 and the mixed doubles round of 16.
China's Lin Dan, Bao Chunlai, Qiu Yanbo and No. 4 seed Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam, the only foreign shuttler in Beijing, will all appear on the scene in the men's singles. The withdrawal of third-seeded Chen Yu before the tournament offered a chance to China's Cao Yang and in the meantime made things easier for No. 2 seed Bao Chunlai on his way to the final.
In the women's singles, veterans Zhang Ning, Xie Xingfang and Zhu Lin are expected to march into the next round togather with their younger teammates Zhu Jingjing, Wang Rong and Liu Jian.
In the first round of the men's doubles, top-seeded Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng will first take on Luo Mingjian/Luo Jiening in the men's doubles. Although the top-seeded pairs Zhang Yawen/Wei Yili in the women's doubles and Zhen Bo/Zhao Tingting in the mixed doubles will play tomorrow, Olympic and world champions Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen in the women's doubles and 2nd seed Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen in the mixed doubles will nevertheless attract a large audience today.
